Gladys Hunt Killam, aged 95, passed on September 3, 2017, in Saint Petersburg, FL, where she lived with her son. Gladys was born on April 11, 1922, in Middletown, Ohio, the daughter of Asa and Madalyn Cone Hale.
She attended secretarial school and held office jobs in Syracuse, NY, where she lived until 1972. In 1942, Gladys married Roy Edward Hunt, Sr. and they were married for 30 years until his passing in 1971. She subsequently married the late Ralph Killam, and for years they were proprietors of the Central Hotel, with restaurant and bar, in Lacona, NY. People came from miles around for her famous salad bar. Gladys was a member and past matron of the Lake Ontario Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, in Sandy Creek, NY.
She was a faithful member of the Park United Methodist Church in Pulaski. Gladys managed the senior nutrition site in Pulaski, NY, until she started “snow-birding” to Florida, in 1998.
Gladys is survived by her son, Roy Edward Hunt, Jr., sister, Dorothy Lee, brother, Robert Hale and sister-in-law, Barbara Hale, as well as two nieces, Jeanne Hamblett and Peggy Reynolds. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Fred Killam and sister-in-law, Shirley Killam.
There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members and friends at the Pulaski Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Park United Methodist Church, 2 Hubble Street, Pulaski, NY 13142.
