It is with sad hearts that the family of Nancy McChesney announces the death of their dear mother. They find great comfort in knowing how loved and adored was this wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Nancy, age 91, resident of Pulaski, passed away peacefully, January 25, 2018. She was the daughter of George and Xira (Wightman) Woods, born on October 7, 1926, in Pulaski, NY. George was a grocer, harness racer, and postmaster in Pulaski. Nancy was married for 62 years to the late Dr. Hugh McChesney, who passed away September 2010. Before making her permanent home in Pulaski, where she lived most of her life, she lived in South Bend, Indiana and Ft. Campbell, Kentucky while Hugh completed his medical residency and service in the US Army.
Nancy graduated from Pulaski Academy in 1944 and then completed her studies at Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Brooklyn, NY. She was a member of the Pulaski Congregational Church and the Monday Historical Club. Her favorite place was anywhere her kids and grandkids were, often at her family cottage at Sandy Pond, where she loved spending her summers, enjoying family and neighbors, and never tiring of the beautiful Lake Ontario sunsets.
She was predeceased by her brother, David Woods and an infant brother. She leaves behind two daughters and two sons, Barbara (Les) of Harpswell, Maine, Janet (Garry) of Colorado Springs, CO, James (Anita) of Oneonta, NY, and Thomas (Jeanne) of Brewerton, NY. She was a loving and proud grandmother of Mia, Dana, Kyle, Jeff, Tom, Elle, Matthew and Jessica, along with three great-grandchildren, Claire, Reed and Lucy.
To the day she left us Nancy was always able to make people smile. She will be missed. Nancy’s family wishes to thank all of those who have sent their condolences.
A family graveside service will be held in the summer. Arrangements by Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski.
