John E. Dunbar, 96, passed away on December 14, 2018 at St. Luke Health Services, Oswego, New York. The care he received from the compassionate staff at the facility was greatly appreciated. John spent most of his life a resident of Pulaski and the surrounding area. He was born in Richland, the son of Leon G. and Bessie (Finster) Dunbar. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the US Navy from 1942-1945. Most of that time he spent in the Pacific Theater, aboard LST #31. He married the love of his life, Kathryn (Gray) Dunbar, and they spent over 73 years together. He owned and operated Dunbar Oil Company in Richland until his retirement in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, and three daughters, Donna (Warren) Warner, Dawn (Larry) Penoyer, and Maureen Dunbar. He also leaves seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces, grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Harwood and Roy, and two sisters, Marion Spicer and Ruth Halsey.
Private services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski.
