Obituary of Sonya A. Hastings
With saddened hearts, Sonya Walker Hastings passed away unexpectedly at home July 24th. Sonya was born March 1, 1954. She most recently lived at Springbrook Apartments in Pulaski and Creekside Apartments in Sandy Creek, previously. She lived in many different areas through her life. Her birth parents were Mary and Edward Walker of Syracuse. However, she and her sister Donna were raised in foster care by Helen and Herb Healey. She grew up in the Williamstown area and attended APW school district. Sonya worked as a cook at many area restaurants, many of which are no longer existing (Frick n Fracks in Pulaski, The Cedar Post in Pulaski, Mimi’s of Mexico, former Ezze Truck Stop in Maple View, The Grist Mill (maybe) and many others. She also worked at the sewing factory in Dexter, NY, where they make swimwear for Venus Swimwear. She later in life became a home health aide for Staffkings from Oswego. Sonya enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She made many outfits for her children and other people. She also made some wedding dresses. She also liked to make quilts. She enjoyed playing card games and loved to go out to eat any chance she could. She loved to see people and socializing with anyone she met, including people she was just walking by, whether at a store, in a restaurant or just on the street.
Sonya is survived by her three children, Nicole Washburn of Pulaski, Jennifer Martin (Tim) of Watertown and Michael Trumble (Renea Norton) of Lacona. She also has several grandchildren, Brittany Washburn of Sandy Creek, Christopher Trumble, Nichalise Trumble and Katelynn Trumble of Altmar, Malachi Gibbs and Wyatt Norton of Lacona and also her sister Donna Walker Murphy of Florida, her uncle, David Walker of Pulaski, cousins Wendy (Tommy) Birmingham of Parish and Darren (Trisha) Walker of Pennellville, they both called her Aunt Sonya their entire life. Sonya was predeceased by her granddaughter Jenna Marie Trumble of Altmar and her aunt Virgina (Ginny) Walker of Pulaski.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30th at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with burial at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral.
