Obituary of Evelyn M. Davis
Evelyn M. Davis, age 87, life resident of Pulaski, passed away Sunday at Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Syracuse. Evelyn was born September 15, 1933 in Pulaski, the daughter of Arnold and May B. Nicholson Davis. She graduated from Pulaski Academy High School as Valedictorian in 1951. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and her master’s degree in Library Science in 1967. Evelyn taught music at Grant Middle School for 30 years, retiring in 1988. She also worked for 13 years as the Box Office Treasurer at the Country Playhouse in Fayetteville, NY. She was a member of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra where she played flute and piccolo for 11 years. She was also a member of the Pulaski Civic Club. Evelyn was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association. She was membership chairman of the Oswego County Retired Teachers Association and treasurer, membership chairman and historian for the Onondaga County Retired Teachers Association. Evelyn was also a member of the Pulaski Grange #730 and the Pulaski Historical Society and the Northern Federation of Women’s Club where she was treasurer. She also held memberships with many sorority and fraternal organizations including, Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu, Sigma Alpha Iota, Phi Kappa Phi, Pie Delta Theta, and Beta Signa.
Evelyn is survived by several cousins and many good friends, and Tracy (O’Connor) Drake, her personal assistant for the past 15 years, a former student who became as close to her as a daughter.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, October 15th at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home 52 Park Street Pulaski with burial in South Richland Cemetery in Fernwood at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral. COVID social distancing guidelines and wearing of masks will be enforced.
